Hermínia Mello Nogueira Borges (1894-1989), (left) born on November 7th, 1894 in Rio de Janeiro. She received a fine education with an emphasis on artistic knowledge. In 1918 she married amateur photographer João Nogueira Borges, and developed a passion for photography. She joined the Brazilian Photo Club, an organization that aimed at divulging artistic photography in Brazil. She became the most prominent female figure in Brazilian photography, having received awards in several competitions and exhibitions in Brazil and abroad in the first half of the 20th century.
